Why a Canopy Bed Mood Board?

I knew it would happen. I’m almost done with our home and I still have design concepts I want to experiment with. That is why I was so excited when Carpet One Floor and Home asked me to design a room based their top design trends {Twenty for 2020}. Carpet One | Twenty for 2020

Carpet One Floor and Home sent me a box full of their 20 flooring products hand-selected for their classic characteristics, trending styles, and cutting-edge technologies. As the industry leader they know a thing or two about the subject. They gave me the fun challenge to pick something inspiring from the collection to use as a jumping off point for my own ideas based on both the trends and my personal aesthetic.

I opted to narrow it down to three carpet samples before letting my Instagram friends pick the carpet of their choice.

Here is what you picked: Passages by Tigressa | So Refined in colorway Sunflower. This is carpet is constructed of 100% nylon and boasts a 20 year warranty on wear and texture protection and lifetime of floor soil, stain and install.

I am so glad that you selected this carpet for the canopy bed mood board because the color and texture have been so inspiring for the rest of the room.

While this carpet could easily be installed wall to wall, I would bind it and lay it over one of these two lovely flooring options.

The light flooring is part of the Invincible LVT collection; West Barclay in Delightful. I love he way it feels like raw wood because these are the types of natural elements that I find myself drawn to this year.

I also love the medium toned flooring, Rustic River Engineered White Oak Hardwood in Stampede, because it is a perfectly timeless selection. Not too dark, not too light, not yellow, orange, or gray…TIMELESS.

Canopy Bed Mood Board Textiles

With sunflower as the inspo I ordered the most beautiful memos I could find.

While this year has me yearning for earthy, natural, and textural elements, I also find myself attracted to all things artisanal and hand crafted. I think this is why I paired the yellow carpet with a large scaled happy floral embroidery. Sometimes people feel the need to use neutrals when working with natural elements. While it is true that a minimalist room with soft ivory walls and wood accents looks fabulous, there is no reason not to still use color. Personally, color makes me happy. So especially during a stressful pandemic, I want to be enveloped in cheerful colors.

Now that you have seen the samples, let me show you how I would implement these ideas in a space. Bedrooms are one of my very favorite rooms to design, and a cocoon of a bed sounds so inviting right now, doesn’t it? Check out these inspo pics.

The Vision

While those inspo pics are stunning, I was looking to implement the canopy bed concept but in a more grown up version. Actually, I believe all of the fabrics I selected could be for litttle children all of the way up to adults.
