Chinoiserie wallpaper bathroom sneak peek- Jeweled Interiors Spring 2020 One Room Challenge Week 6
What’s not to love about Chinoiserie wallpaper? Well, I’ve installed a roll of it in my small bathroom linen closet as a teaser/sneak peek of more yummy wallpaper goodness to come. Check out how it looks with the Charlotte’s Locks orange trim.
Note: The Chinoiserie wallpaper mentioned in this post was gifted by Hygge and West– Palace in Mist by Patch NYC, but the opinions are 100% my own.

We took the week off to listen, learn, and support the black lives matter cause. It was a revelatory week for me personally.
Moment of Chinoiserie Wallpaper Decision
In case you missed it in my stories, it came time to finalize wallpaper colorways and I made a last minute clutch decision.
I had originally planned on using Hygge and West’s Palace in Indigo. I love the way that the light blue leopards poppped against the navy background. The surface designers of this pattern, Patch NYC, describe this pattern in this way:
“Organic irregularity harmonizes with graphic symmetry in this play on the classic leopard print motif, where the four-legged keeper of those iconic spots directs a watchful eye over the palace grounds.”
So, what’s not to adore about that? I personally love that it is such a timeless pattern. This is something I could have loved 10 years ago as much as I do today. Depending on the styling, this wallpaper could read a variety of styles (Traditional, Modern, Eclectic, Boho, Preppy…the list goes on, but it seems very versatile to me).
After refacing the vanity I took a practice shot with the Indigo color way. Check it out:
And while that is incredibly pretty, something about this year has made me long for softer, more peaceful colors. When I held up the same wallpaper but in the Mist colorway my heart got incredibly excited. What do you think?
In the end I went with the lighter Mist colorway, and it arrived this week.
Before Chinoiserie Wallpaper
I can’t install the chinoiserie wallpaper on the walls until I paint the shower tile, but I had enough extra paper to line MOST of the small linen closet in this bathroom.
You can see here that this petite closet had been stuffed to the gills with old bedding, towels, and other random things. It was screaming for a good sorting.
It is obvious that nobody has organized this space since we moved in two years ago. To be fair, I think I’ve only opened that door a handful of times. I had almost forgotten this closet existed, but now that I see it in photograph form on my blog…I can’t unsee it. Just keeping it real here folks.
After Chinoiserie Wallpaper
I started with a really great purging session. If I haven’t touched it in two years, do I really need that set of flannel sheets? Absolutely yes! Ummm…I mean…maybe not? Man, I’m such a hoarder, but I tried to pair down things down. (Note: even having said that, I plan to add more items back into the closet now that the photos are taken. I just wanted you to be able to see this awesome Chinoiserie wallpaper behind it- again, just a little dose of reality).
Then I used Romans 800 and carefully installed the Hygge and West Patch NYC Palace Mist. Covering a shelved closet always takes more time and wallpaper than you might initially guess. In the end however, I am very happy with how it turned out…that was an understatement…I’M SOOOOO HAPPY with this little linen closet.
I get a lot of questions about hanging my own wallpaper. There are several styles of paper (self adhesive, paste the wall, and pastse the paper). Hygge & West recommends rolling the paste onto the back of the paper, folding it in half (bookending) for 5 mins, and then applying to the wall. I normally size or prime my walls first, but I did not this time. I also normally find a plum line before begining, but in this scenario I was able to basically eye ball it, based on the width of paper compared to the back of the shelf.). On the wall, however, I plan to check for level with each section.
I was also able to pick-up these pretty baskets this week. The fun texture helps this timeless Chinoiserie almost feel borderline Bohemian and less predictable.
I will be installing the rest of the wallpaper in the next couple of weeks, but I’m excited to have a little sneak peek of the upcoming vibe. What do you think? Did I choose the right colorway? Please let me know in the comment below, even if the answer is no. I can handle it 😉
I am hopeful that the shower tile paint may arrive by next week and then we will really be rockin’ and rollin’.

Impressive job and choices. We kept our flannel sheets too. Our girls like them not only for cold weather but also because they have winter and Christmas designs. I mean who doesn’t need sheets with cute bunnies in the snow.
I usually get drawn to brighter, dramatic color but I like the softer blue combo better, especially with the vanity. It’s sophisticated and serene and doesn’t boss the room around as much as I think the bolder would. IMO you chose the right colorway.
Great choice! And the unexpectedness of the papering the linen closet is a really fun pop. Can’t wait to see the shower tile painted!

I love the new color choice, I personally love the softer feel. I subscribe to your blog specifically because you are a polar opposite from me in design and color choices. I look forward to your updates to see how you select and coordinate colors and styles, that to me, seem to be so different and unrelated. BUT, it always comes together! I so appreciate your style, but I, on the other hand choose the calm, coastal color palette. Thanks for being real, we all have ‘that’ closet! 🙂
