I figured what better way to debut said room than with ten other extremely talented bloggers who don’t shy away from color…and lots of it.  That’s right my friends…It’s been a wonderful summer, but now that the kids are back to school we can all start checking off our LOOONNGGG lists of projects, big and small. These last couple of weeks have afforded me hours to myself in the middle of the day to wrap up this fun room.

About the Room

This room is important to our family for two reasons:

1. It’s for that smart, funny, and beautiful young lady right there.  She may only be in middle school, but she just started her 6th school (or 7th if you count British Primary School).  Yep, if anyone deserves a room makeover, it might just be her!

2. We just moved…again…and it’s time to start knocking off these rooms one at at time. Begining in a child’s room has given me a little more time to mull over what I want to do with the entertaining areas of the home.  Want to see what we are starting with? After the Spring 2018 ORC my daughter fell head-over-heals for the bedroom Jennifer from Dimples and Tangles created for her daugher.  It’s pretty spectacular, right?

While I have upholstered many things in my life, this was my first attempt at covering a headboard.  I approached this project with a bit of fear and trepidation.  Do I really have the sewing skills to take on all of those sexy curves?  Am I going to waste perfectly PERFECT fabric? Well, I’m happy to report that it was less challenging than I feared. PHEW!  It did, however, take time.  I didn’t clock it exactly, but I would guess 15- 20 hours total.

I can’t deny that for three (or four or five 🙂 days it looked like a Hobby Lobby threw up inside of my living room. I would say the ends justify the means on this one, though…wouldn’t you?

Have you ever owned custom sheets?  As in, picked from an ALMOST endless supply of options and then someone made them especially for you?  Ummm…Me neither…This was a first for us and, let me tell you, it was a TOTAL treat. My daughter is unbelievably excited (and so am I)!

For the sheets I chose Luxe Palm Leaf Pattern in Emerald by the Esther Fallon Lau  AKA the  Nouveau Bohemian (the same designer and collection as the Spoonflower headboard fabric).  Shopping in the same Spoonflower/Roostery collection or from the same designer is an easy way to find patterns that coordinate.   These sheets are crisp, fresh, and ohhhh soooo unique!  I challenge you to find bed sheets that are half this cool from any other website

Confession time- My daughter has been lacking a cover for her duvet for about 8 months now mostly because I couldn’t find any that captured my heart.  Everything just seemed so…well…boring.  I am stoked that she now has this  Bitsy Dots Pattern Duvet designed by Crystal Walen.  Crystal is another one of my favorite surface designers on Spoonflower and Roostery.  She alone has 17 pages of duvet cover options…Seriously folks…go check this stuff out! Endless possibilities!

I was happy to see that the duvet is 100% cotton sateen and feels rather wrinkle resistent…because…um.. I’m not an “iron your bedding” type of gal.  The design is two-sided (front and back of the duvet) and has a hidden zipper and comforter ties.  What’s not to love?

THE STRIPES

I saved what is perhaps the biggest SURPRISE for last!  Can we take a moment to enjoy these crazy-cool Tempaper removable wallpaper stripes?

Sure, you’ve seen stripes on walls before, but have you ever seen them spaced out quite like this?  I wanted the walls to be light and airy so that it fit with the silk curtains.  Surprisingly, my inspiration for this striped pattern was a dress worn by the lady in front of me at church.  Just telling it like it is folks.

As I shopped around to various wallpaper websites I could find thick black stripes but that seemed too harsh.  I could find thin stripes that are closer together, but that was still too much black for this girl’s bedroom.

It was somewhere in this decision making proccess that I realized  Tempaper Mini Stripes gave me complete DIY control.  Since these stripes are applied individually I had the ability to design my own pattern.  Early in this proccess I had about three different black stripe design options that I also considered (a trio of horizontal racing stripes even made the list), but luckily in the end I couldn’t resist the classic french feel of these stripes.

Here’s the Trick Though

Tempaper Mini Stripes come in 4 inch rolls. I DIY’ed them to this 2 inch width.  DIY HERE.  It’s easy and no Silhouette Machine required.

    I think this needs to go down in the girls room makeover history books! What a blessed and fortunate young lady to have a room this gorgeous to come home to every day.. if she ever gets on punishment don’t send her to this room lol because the punishment would be to stay out the room

    Jewel, I told you you work magic. LOL! There is so much about this space that I love! I love the desk area and the accessories you chose to display. It all looks playful but it says, I am teen as well. I love that black side table and all of the art. I really like your curtain rods….If you DIY’d that you need to share a tutorial. Don’t be shock if I copy you. Haha! I also love the bedding. It is so spot on…get it!? The chandy and the painted ceiling definitely adds to the space in a way that they wouldn’t if they weren’t there. Great job ma and your photos look FAB!

    Ok. That fabric (all of it) is AMAZING. Like so so so pretty and fun! Amazed you did that yourself. Also LOVE the mirror in there. Gorgeous space, Jewel!

    Thanks Charlotte! Spoonflower for the win, am I right? That mirror is there for now, but I have a feeling when I go to redo my family room next Spring it may find a new home downstairs. She better enjoy it while it lasts!

    Thanks Jess! I’m so glad you like it! The curtain rods were on sale at Target for my first ORC room. I spray painted them gold (they came in black and silver and I had a mix).
