Gulp…A much needed kitchen pantry makeover plan is in the works for the New Year New Room Challenge. Check out my embarrassing “Before” pics and the wallpapers that I’m eying.
Today kicks off Week 1 of the New Year New Room Challenge Refresh hosted by the ever so talented Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living. In the past I have gone BIG for this refresh…like my whole basement, or my daughter’s bedroom. This year, however, I’m tackling a smaller space that is in serious need of love… Check out the kitchen pantry refresh plan and help me pick a wallpaper. If I’m able, I’ll update a few other parts of the kitchen as well. Also, don’t forget to check out the links to the other fun participants at the end.
The winning wallpaper will be sponsored by Hygge and West, but the opinions are 100% my own.

Current Kitchen Pantry Situation
It’s not that we NEVER clean our pantry…It’s just that it’s been a while…and maybe it’s only been twice since COVID started😬. But here’s the real problem. See these doors? They look just fine when closed, don’t they? In fact, I really like them with their fancy casing, thick architrave and pretty handles….
It’s the pretty facade that has enabled the reign of chaos that lurks behind these doors…Please tell me I’m not the only one whose pantry looks like this?
Or worse yet…This…
The Kitchen Pantry Makeover Plan
Here’s my plan: Don’t buy any more food between now and the reveal. I’M KIDDING!…mostly :).
But seriously, I’ve heard that if areas of your home don’t stay clean long it is because you need a better organizational system. I might be guilty as charged, so developing a way to store and sort food should be high on the list. I’ve never claimed to be a master organizer, so this will require a little research on my end. Should I invest in pretty cereal organizers, baskets, etc? Perhaps.
I also think I need to move the big appliances to the bottom shelf or to another area of my kitchen. They look too heavy on the top shelf and they would destroy my marble tile if they ever dropped.
Pretend to act surprised, but I definitely know I want to paint the inside of the doors and install wallpaper. Here are a couple of wallpaper kitchen pantry makeover plan options:
This fun paper is Hygge and West’s Bruno in Navy. Pretty, eh? Do the blue undertones match? I’m not sure that they do, but it might be worth sampling. While my kitchen is less green IRL than in those pics above, I think the Bruno is still more of a true-navy with less green undertones than my kitchen.
Option 2 is this stunning Hygge and West Deep green Palma wallpaper. I think it does a great job of playing off the other rooms in view:
and the Bathroom
Knowing all of this info, which wallpaper would you pick? Any tips for food storage?
I’m excited to get going on this project that will be a beautiful and functional addition to the kitchen. Don’t forget to check back in each Tuesday as we work towards this goal. If I have time, I might manage a few other surprises in addition to the kitchen pantry makeover plan while I’m at it.
Now go check out Blue I Style blog as she plans out her bedroom to playroom plan❤️.
I’d go for the green. Simply because I’ve been crushing on that shade of green for a bit:)
Ooooh, I love the green. I’m always drawn to that shade anyway, but the blue reminds me of coral, and your house seems more “foliage” than “shells.” Although it’s a small space, I bet your daily life will be enhanced by having a pretty pantry. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! I got lots of kitchen ideas watching The Home Edit; it inspired me to decant all the spices into pretty containers and label them!
I think I am leaning that direction. I had the thought that maybe I can install wallpaper to the inside of my doors as well??? I need to play around with 1/4 plywood to find out
Thanks! The Home Edit. I’ll have to check them out. That’s funny you see shells. I just saw Art Deco. Now that you mention it I see it though🤣
I’d do whatever I could to make things light and bright. Fun is great, but you want to not be overwhelmed when you’re in the middle of cooking. If you like the green, then maybe the shelves are white? Bins are very useful, and I’ve moved a lot of things out into my garage. My pantry now holds mostly things I am currently using (vinegars, peanut butter, that sort of thing) along with snacks. So extra cans and bottles are all out in the garage, along with my potatoes and onions. Little used appliances could go out there, too.
I would skip the wallpaper and paint it. It is not going to stay pretty and it seems like an unnecessary expense!
That’s not a bad idea either!
Bright is nice. I like your idea of back stocking. Thanks for sharing Lorrie.
I think the clean lines of the blue will look better against what you’ll have in the pantry and might inspire a sense of orderliness for the users. The green is great but I think will sort of support confusion.
Well the facade is gorgeous! I love the green wallpaper option. Bins help keep my pantry organized.
Thanks Kathy! LOL. It can only get better from here 🙂
Hi Kirk!
I see where you are coming from but I’ve committed to the green. I’m hoping that some great bins and storage will help. Thanks!
